MUON DETECTORS IN THE WORLD'S LARGEST SCIENTIFIC EXPERIMENT
TECHNOLOGY/ENGINEERING
Tel Aviv University, Weizmann Institute of Science, Technion – Israel Institute of Technology
“A huge system of state of the art detectors, developed and built in Israel, is central to the operation of the ATLAS experiment operating at the European center for Nuclear Research (CERN).
The experiment documents high-energy collisions initiated by the world’s largest particle accelerator. The Israeli detector system identifies muons, which are elementary particles created by the collision of energetic counter rotating proton beams. The protons collide at a very high rate, and the products of their collision decay in a split second. Once the Israeli system identifies a muon, a signal is issued calling for a precise recording of the unusual events in the ATLAS detector, so that the nature and properties of the collision products may be later investigated. Thus, for example, the Israeli detectors were a vital component in the discovery of the long-sought Higgs Boson in 2012.”

During the National Football League’s (NFL) 2015 season, including preseason and playoffs, a total of 271 player concussions were diagnosed, an increase of 32 percent over the NFL’s 2014 diagnosed concussion totals. In regular season games alone, diagnosed concussions rose by 58 percent up to 182 diagnoses, the highest such number in four years according to reports from ESPN. Of those regular season concussions 92 were caused by contact with another helmet.
It seems reasonable to suspect that new concussion protocols, which are heightened screening measures adopted by the NFL for in-game evaluation of players potentially suffering a head trauma, are at least part of the reason why the number of diagnosed concussions rose so significantly. It seems equally clear, however, that football players are regularly suffering a great deal of brain trauma. The long term effects of that brain trauma is at best uncertain and at worse potentially very frightening.

Following yesterday's post on the potential for unlocking IP value at Nintendo in light of the Pokemon GO craze, this blogger has just seen today's blogpost from Aistemos—"Patents surrounding Pokémon Go – has someone caught them all"? Aistemos was established by Nigel Swycher, a long-time friend of this blog, who had a lengthy and illustrious career in London as a leading lawyer in IP transactions and strategy before deciding to follow his passion for IP analytics as a means of improving IP decision-making for businesses and their professional advisers.

The blogpost provides fascinating information and data about the patent position of Augmented Reality. The post notes in summary that--
"Augmented Reality (AR) technology has seen a surge in innovation since 2010;

AR relies on many technologies and has many applications;

Main technologies are head-mounted displays and image processing;

Siemens were pioneers and hold a large and mature patent portfolio."
In summary, the post proclaims—
"Pokémon Go has proven that AR is here to stay."
As we suggested yesterday, the jury is still out whether Nintendo will ultimately enjoy sustained commercial success from AR technology. In seeking to answer this question, Aistemos has provided useful information and more food for thought. The post is well-worth reading (and reading again).

During that time, the two businesses learned about each other's business models and decided to settle out of court and move forward with the acquisition.
La Tortilla Oven is using this patented technology to launch a new end product -- the Micro-Steamer -- for vegetables. The Micro-Steamer conserves water and uses water already present in the vegetables to make the steam. The patented technology traps the heat and redirects it back into the vegetable, steaming it naturally and organically with the use of a microwave.
"After all, why do you need water to steam vegetables if the vegetables already have water in them?" asks Mark Alvarez, president, La Tortilla Oven.
And, water conservation is not the only benefit that the Micro-Steamer offers. This new cooking technology also helps vegetables to retain more valuable nutrients and speeds up cooking time.More http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/la-tortilla-oven-acquires-patent-technology-for-steaming-food-300308805.html
